November 17th "Junior Invention Convention"

The STA is proud to be a sponsor of this year's Annual Junior Invention Convention to be held at the Redding Convention Center between the hours of 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 17th.

The Junior Invention Convention is a yearly event hosted by the Inventor's Alliance of Northern California. It is like a science fair for 6th- through 8th-Graders, but instead of focusing on the scientific method, it showcases the student's ability to create innovative, patentable products.

According to Allan Swain, the program originator, "We have had a wonderful group of sponsors who have made this year's event our largest. They made it possible to involve more kids, and to provide more prizes and scholarships to everyone who participates."

Swain adds, "This year's event will provide over $18,000 in cash and scholarships to the students. The first prize winner will receive a professionally reviewed and submitted US patent application, a $7,000 value. In addition, the first prize winner will receive up to $1,800 for patent filing fees, along with a $3,000 scholarship. Second prize is a $2,000 scholarship, third prize is a $1,500 scholarship, and fourth prize is a $1,000 scholarship."

"Every entry that makes it to the finals on Saturday will receive an Edmond Scientific gift certificate for $125. We want everyone who makes it this far to get something, even if they don't take home the top honors."

The STA will have information available on-site the day of the event, as well as have several members assisting with hosting the Convention.

Its always amazing to see the inventions that these talented kids come up with. Even if you can't stay long, its worth it to stop by to check it out and support the kids. The awards ceremony will be held at 3:30 PM on the day of the event. We hope to see you there!
